Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar at present (December 23) invited Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge to his residence on Monday (December 25) for an interplay on the difficulty of disruptions in Parliament and the suspension of Opposition MPs, saying regardless of his repeated requests, such a gathering couldn’t occur through the Winter session.

The vice chairman mentioned the dysfunction within the House was deliberate and a part of a method.

“I do not seek to embarrass you by indicating the predetermined role of the main opposition party in this communication, but will share with you when I have the benefit of interaction with you,” he mentioned.

In a recent letter to Kharge, who’s the chief of the Opposition within the House, Dhankhar wrote, “We need to move ahead” and invited him for an interplay on December 25 “or a time of your convenience” at his official residence.

VP Jagdeep Dhankhar’s reactions on Mallikarjun Kharge’s letter: 

Responding to Kharge’s December 22 (Friday) letter, the Rajya Sabha chairperson mentioned he wished that the Congress chief’s assertion that “we firmly believe in fostering dialogue and discussion” was mirrored in actions within the House.

“During the entire session, despite my repeated requests, in the House and by way of written communications to secure your indulgence for interaction, the same did not fructify,” he wrote.

Dhankhar mentioned the premise of suspensions, opposite to Kharge’s stance, was deliberate dysfunction within the House by the use of sloganeering, elevating placards, getting into the properly of the House and gesticulating in direction of the Chair.

“Before taking the unpleasant step, all efforts and initiatives were exhausted at my end to secure order in the House, including by way of brief adjournments and seeking interactions in my Chamber,” he mentioned.

What Kharge inform to VP Dhankhar prior?

Kharge had on Friday informed Dhankhar that the suspension of MPs on such a big scale was detrimental to the core rules of India’s parliamentary democracy. In his letter to Dhankhar, Kharge had mentioned he was pained and agonised on the suspension of so many MPs and felt pissed off and disheartened.

The Congress president was responding to an earlier letter by Dhankhar during which he had mentioned rendering the House dysfunctional by making a requirement to the Chair that can’t be acceded was unlucky and in opposition to public curiosity. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned sine die on Thursday (December 21), a day forward of the scheduled finish of Parliament’s Winter session.

During the Winter session, 46 MPs had been suspended from the Rajya Sabha for unruly behaviour and misconduct. The Winter session started on December 4 and was scheduled to conclude on December 22.
