Vistara to review rostering system with pilots amid flight disruptions: CEO Vinod Kannan

Amid simmering discontent amongst Vistara pilots, its CEO Vinod Kannan stated, considerations which have been raised by the pilots have been considered and are being reviewed by the airline.  Citing the stretched roster for pilots as the numerous motive for the operational disruption (inflicting a brief discount in flight operations), Kannan stated the scenario can be normalised by May because the airline service is wanting to review the present rostering system. 

In an unique interview with information company, the Vistara CEO stated, considerations have been raised round rostering throughout a city corridor. However, the pilots have been assured that the airline would take a look at the way it (the rostering course of) will be reviewed.

Speaking additional over the present scenario, he stated dialogue will happen, and we can have to undertake one rostering system that almost all are okay with. 

“Within the pilot cohort, pilots can bid for different lifestyles on the airline’s advanced rostering system. Among others, some like to fly more and some don’t want to have layovers. But obviously, we cannot have different rostering systems for different groups of pilots.”

“We are going to go back to the pilots to seek their views and inputs to see how it (rostering system) is working, and what their thoughts are… whether they should be amended, whether they should be improved,” he added. 

It is pertinent to word that of the airline’s complete workforce of round 6,500 individuals, 1,000 are pilots.

Meanwhile, in the course of the interview, the Vistara Chief additionally refuted any uncommon spike in attrition. Responding to a query about some first officers quitting and becoming a member of different carriers, he stated, “The airline has not seen any unusual spike in attrition.”

“We always have a certain level of attrition, which happens…, including for pilots. We have not seen any unusual spike compared to that…we are continuing to hire,” Kannan added. 

Earlier, on the query of pilots going through uncertainties due to the proposed merger with Air India, Kannan burdened that the merger is about scale and development.

In an announcement on Saturday, Kannan stated greater than 98 % of the pilots have signed the brand new contract.

“We are aware that some pilots have some concerns and queries regarding the contract. We are engaging with them to clarify and resolve the same. However, this has not caused any visible spike in attrition amongst pilots,” he added.
