Kolkata: Ahead of the much-awaited West Bengal Assembly elections, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Susanta Pal punished himself by shamelessly doing ‘sit-ups’ holding his ears ahead of his induction to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in presence of former TMC leader Suvendu Adhikari, who recently joined the saffron clad after brawl with Mamata Banerjee.

Adhikari’s meeting was organised in Pingla district of West Bengal on March 3 (Wednesday) where the local TMC leader quit the party to join BJP.

The event’s video was even shared by BJP’s Mahila Morcha leader and party’s national incharge of social media Priti Gandhi on micro-blogging site Twitter.

“TMC leader Susanta Pal performed sit-ups on stage as he joined the BJP. He held his ears and did sit-ups asking for “forgiveness” for staying with @MamataOfficial’s Trinamool Congress,” she wrote while sharing the video.

As it can be seen in the video, other leaders on the stage were embarassed to see an adult behaving in such a strange manner and even Adhikhari had to change his spot to avoid the discomfort.

Meanwhile, ruling TMC has criticised the incident.

Meanwhile, leaders of the BJP in West Bengal are busy holding parleys with the the party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) in Delhi. Speaking to news agency IANS, party insiders said that it is likely to give equal importance to both old and newly-inducted members as candidates for the first two phases of the state Assembly elections.
