‘Will boost vaccine production’: SII CEO Adar Poonawalla thanks US for lifting embargo

New Delhi: Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla hailed the efforts of India’s Ministry of External Affairs S jaishankar and the US for lifting restrictions on the manufacturing of COVID-19 vaccine saying that the transfer will boost the nation’s vaccine manufacturing.

Taking to Twitter, Poonawalla thanked US President Joe Biden and MEA saying, “…this coverage change will hopefully improve the provision of uncooked supplies globally and to India; boosting our vaccine manufacturing capability and strengthening our united struggle towards this pandemic.”

The remark comes as only a day after the Biden administration eliminated the 1950 Defense Production Act precedence scores on AstraZeneca, Novavax and Sanofi vaccines. The regulation was imposed to prioritise vaccine provides for American producers. The lifting of this restriction would let US firms take their very own choice on whom they need to promote their vaccines.
