A consumer on the micro-blogging website ‘X’ just lately sparked a major controversy after sharing a put up concerning the unintended effects of contraceptive tablets on girls whereas attributing their utilization to participating in ‘unprotected sex,’ which, in flip, he recommended, led to potential hurt to their well being. This put up garnered a considerable backlash on social media, with customers vehemently criticising the one-sided blame on girls and expressing doubts concerning the consumer’s information regarding contraceptive tablets.
The complete episode was initiated by the consumer @Prateek_Aaryan, who posted a screenshot of a girl displaying a packet of contraceptive tablets, humourously referring to it as a ‘girl breakfast.’ In a prolonged message, he commented, “Women nowadays are stooping to new lows; initially, they engage in unprotected sex and rely on contraceptive pills shown in TV ads to prevent unwanted pregnancies, which are not completely safe and can harm their bodies.”

He proceeded to listing the unintended effects of those tablets. Little did he realise that his ‘superficial’ alternative of phrases and lack of credible sources would flip him into a web based goal.

“This is what happens when you just google stuff without going deep into the literature or consulting an expert in the field. Emergency contraception like i-pill are completely safe. Whatever side effects they have are temporary, including that on mense,” remarked one consumer. “Just wanna say one thing, being a MBBS student, before posting such thing just do some research. Just read about Epills from some gyne textbook or talk to ur faculty. Then you will get to know more. Such tweets just spread misinformation in public,” commented one other.
In the meantime, those that perceived this put up as derogatory towards girls additionally started trolling him. “Thanks for this eyeopening tweet bro…I was having a hard time explaining to few of my friends what exactly is mansplaining. Now, I can simply show this,” one consumer sarcastically famous. “If you really care about women’s health, there is an easy way to stop this. When misogynists like you start using condoms, or better still, get a vasectomy done, women will no longer need to take the pill. Until that day, please sit down,” criticised one other consumer.
Since the preliminary put up, it has amassed over 2.7 million views on the platform. While the poster continued to defend his viewpoint in a sequence of posts, the trolls continued, compelling him to make a last-ditch effort.
In a remaining message, he wrote, “Dear men, wear a condom to protect yourself and your partner from Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). Refrain from engaging in unprotected sex.”
