The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has turned down Narsingh Yadav’s request to carry a recent trial for subsequent month’s World Olympic qualifier in Sofia. With this, the 31-year-old Maharashtra wrestler’s dream of qualifying for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics has additionally ended. The 2015 World Championships bronze-medallist had missed the 2016 Rio Olympics after failing a dope check. He was suspended for 4 years, however rescheduling of Tokyo Olympics resulting from Covid-19 pandemic gave him an opportunity to satisfy his dream of collaborating within the Games. On his comeback, he couldn’t dominate the 74 kg occasion within the nationwide championships and home choice trials and missed the Asian Olympic qualifier.

For the World Olympic qualifier in Sofia from May 6 to 9, the WFI has chosen Amit Dhankar for the 74 kg group. Dhankar will substitute Sandeep Singh Mann, who wasn’t spectacular within the Asian Olympic qualifier and Asian Wrestling Championships held lately in Almaty.

Vinesh Phogat (53 kg), Anshu Malik (57 kg) and Sonam Malik (62kg) have qualified in the women’s section.
