Thai police have warned Liverpool followers to not fall for on-line scammers impersonating Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, hotly tipped to interchange Jurgen Klopp at Anfield in the summertime.

The Central Investigation Bureau advised supporters to be careful for a viral message purporting to point out the Spaniard’s Instagram account asking for donations of 300 baht ($8.50) to assist pay his airfare.

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder is among the many favourites to take over from Klopp, who shocked followers on Friday by asserting he would step down on the finish of the season.

“Liverpool fans, calm down. Xabi is not yet the manager, but there is already a scammer,” the police assertion posted on Facebook Sunday stated.

The police stated the message — doctored to appear like it got here from Alonso’s official Instagram account — was “a scammer pretending to be Xabi”.
